Welcome to Bourk’s Complete Car Care in Ottawa, ON, where our skilled technicians specialize in vehicle maintenance, including essential brake pad changes. Your vehicle’s braking system is important for your safety on the road, and worn brake pads can significantly impact their performance. This blog will explain the importance of timely brake pad replacement and how our team will ensure your brakes are in top condition.
Understanding Worn Brake Pads
Brake pads are a critical component of your vehicle’s braking system. They create friction against the brake rotor to slow down or stop your car. Over time, these pads wear down due to constant use. If your brake pads are worn, you may hear squeaking or grinding noises when you apply the brakes.
Ignoring these signs can lead to decreased braking efficiency and may even damage other parts of the brake system, such as the brake rotors. At Bourk’s Complete Car Care, we recommend replacing worn brake pads promptly to maintain your vehicle’s safety and performance.

Our experienced technicians have the knowledge and tools necessary to handle all aspects of brake maintenance. The Brake Pad Replacement Process
Here’s how we handle your brake pad change:
- Inspection and Assessment: Our team will begin with a comprehensive inspection of your brake system. We’ll examine the brake pads, rotors, calipers, and brake lines to identify any issues.
- Preparation: Once we confirm that a brake pad replacement is necessary, we will gather the required tools. We ensure the vehicle is parked safely on a level surface.
- Loosening the Lug Nuts: Before lifting the vehicle, we will use a lug wrench to slightly loosen the lug nuts on the wheel to make removal easier.
- Lifting the Vehicle: Our technicians will safely elevate your vehicle, ensuring safety during the entire process.
- Removing the Wheel: With the vehicle elevated, we will remove the lug nuts completely and remove the wheel to access the brake components.
Expert Brake Pad Replacement
- Removing the Brake Caliper: To replace the brake pads, we’ll carefully remove the brake caliper by unscrewing the bolts that hold it in place. Our technicians take great care to avoid damaging the brake lines during this step.
- Replacing the Brake Pads: Once the caliper is removed, we will slide out the worn brake pads and replace them with new ones. We ensure the new pads are correctly positioned for optimal performance.
- Reassembling the Brake System: After installing the new brake pads, we’ll slide the brake caliper back over them and securely tighten the caliper bolts.
Final Steps Before Driving
- Checking Brake Fluid: Before reattaching the wheel, we’ll check the brake fluid reservoir to ensure it’s at the proper level. If necessary, we’ll add more brake fluid to maintain optimal braking performance.
- Reattaching the Wheel: We will place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts. Before lowering the vehicle, we’ll tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure on the wheel.
- Lowering the Vehicle: After securing the wheel, we’ll lower the vehicle back to the ground. Once it’s fully down, we’ll tighten the lug nuts completely to secure the wheel.
Testing Your Brakes
After completing the brake pad replacement, we will test your brakes to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Our technicians will press the brake pedal a few times to seat the new pads and restore proper braking performance.
